Bimatoprost Ophthalmic solution is the active pharmaceutical component present in glaucoma medications. It is useful in treating high pressure inside the eye due to open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Reducing elevated pressure in the eye can help prevent total vision loss. Its regular use as eye drops regulates the flow of aqueous humour within the eye to maintain normal pressure.
Bimatoprost is also utilised to stimulate eyelash growth. It is a prescription eye drop for making them thicker, darker, and longer.
The active ingredient Bimatoprost
Bimatoprost falls into the category of drugs known as prostaglandins. It is known to increase the amount of aqueous humour fluid that drains out of the eye to lower intraocular eye pressure (IOP).
Bimatoprost lowers IOP by mimicking the action of naturally occurring prostaglandins (natural body chemicals). Prostaglandins are known to increase the drainage of the eye fluid out of the eye and maintain the proper pressure within the eye.
Uses of Bimatoprost
Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution is supplied a container to use topically.
For the treatment of glaucoma-
Apply the solution in the affected eye once a day in the evening. Use it as directed by your ophthalmologist.
While taking the dose, tilt your head back, look up, and pull your lower eyelid down. Hold the bottle’s tip or the dropper over your affected eye and place one drop into the eye. After dropping the solution into your eye, gradually look downward and gently close your eyes for at least 1 minute. To avoid draining the solution, one can place a finger at the corner of the eye closest to the nose and gently apply pressure. You are not allowed to blink or rub your eye after dropping the formulation into your eye. Repeat these steps for the other eye if it is affected by glaucoma.
It is necessary to replace the dropper cap after each application and make sure that you close it tightly. In case you are using any other eye drops or ointments, you must wait for at least 5 minutes before applying any other eye formulation. Also, use the eye drops before eye ointments so they can quickly enter the eye without interference.
For the growth of eyelashes–
Apply Careprost Bimatoprost once daily at night. Before applying the solution, wash your face and remove makeup. Also, take out your contact lenses, if any. Place 1 drop of careprost on the applicator that comes with the solution, then draw a line along the base of the upper eyelashes. Do not apply to the lower lash line. Immediately blot the excess solution with a tissue to avoid unwanted hair growth. Dispose of the applicator and use a new sterile applicator to minimise the chances of contamination.
Important things to remember
Please refrain from using the solution frequently, as it will not be effective. Wash your hands before and after applying the solution. To avoid contamination, do not touch the tip of the bottle or let it come into contact with your eye or any other surface. Bimatoprost Careprost eye drops contain a preservative that may stain contact lenses. So, it is necessary to remove contact lenses before applying the solution. A patient must wait for at least fifteen minutes before putting their contact lenses back in.
Use Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution regularly to achieve maximum results. Don’t forget to use the medication; remember to use it every day at the same time. Continue using the formulation, even if you feel well. Most people don’t have symptoms associated with glaucoma or high pressure in the eye.
